Originated in the rural villages of West Bengal, Kantha work is one of the oldest forms of traditional embroidery, which involves stitching patchwork clothes from rags. The word Kantha has its roots in the Sanskrit word “ Kantha”, meaning rags.
Kantha work involves producing a completely new look from leftover pieces of cloth. It is thus considered a really sustainable form of work. Kantha work can be categorized based on the type of stitch. These are Running Kantha ( straight stitches), Lahori Kantha ( wave Kantha), Cross stitch or Carpet Kantha etc.
This embroidery style draws inspiration from everyday life, and the motifs and designs have a lot of birds, animals, folk scenes, fish and different livelihood imagery. Furthermore, the Kantha work-designed bedcovers that we offer are not just vibrant and distinctive but also highly comfortable.
