Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, is a widely known and popular place regarding traditional crafts and fine artistry. Jaipuri Razai, as the name suggests, is basically a handmade quilt made by the local artisans of Jaipur.

The origin of Jaipuri Razai is also connected to Vishnuism (a Hindu sect that worships Lord Vishnu, also known as Vaishnav). Devotees of Lord Vishnu also included kings that ruled princely states of Rajasthan during the 16th century AD. These maharajas banned the use of leather or wool in their kingdoms, including Jaipur. As Rajasthan sometimes experiences freezing weather, the local artisans decided to make cotton quilts that are warm, durable and easy to carry.

Jaipur specializes in hand quilting of fluffed cotton, and this craft can be seen in Topkhane Ka Rasta, Chaura Rasta, and Chandpole Bazaar Sanganer. What’s so special about Jaipuri Razai is the cotton carding, done by labourers’ hands so that the quilt remains extra light and warm. The quality of the quilt is based on the type of cloth, cotton, carding and stitching. At Bedsheets India, we offer 100% cotton designs at budget-friendly prices.
